Out of shape at 36 years old, Dick Hoyt's son Rick (who has cerebral palsy) asked his dad if they could run a race together. After the race, his son told him "Dad, when I'm running, it feels like my disability disappears". 72 marathons and 6 Ironman Triathlons later, Team Hoyt received the "Jimmy V Perseverance Award" at the ESPY's.

One lives in a house with no ramps, the other wondering where his next meal will come from, graduating from a school with only a 40% graduation rate.

He turned down scholarships elsewhere to walk on at Michigan State. His senior year, with the starting linebacker suspended, he finally got his moment in the spotlight: 4th and 1 with the game on the line in the Rose Bowl.
